Have you ever seen a photo that made you feel something when you looked at it? The best images are the ones that are honest and vulnerable. All we ask from you is to be honest and true to you. Be yourself and don’t be afraid to let go! We give you permission to be vulnerable. don’t worry about what you think you should act like on a photo shoot. Just be how you would be with each other if no one else was there.
Remember what it's all about
While your wedding day is about being with your closest friends and your family, the engagement session is all about the two of you, and the miracle you two met and are together! Your engagement session is meant to bring you away from this busy season of life and to focus and connect on each other. In case you have any issues hugging, kissing, and playing together, we’ll be here to help ;)
Head over to the blog and pin 10-20 of our images that stand out the most to you. This will help us to see what kind of photos you lean towards and will help us to customize your session just for you!
Pick your place
We recommend the environment where we shoot reflects who you are. It will affect your mood and the vibe of the photos. If you’re city people, it might not be right to take your photos in a woodsy location. If you’re not totally sure where to go, think of somewhere that has a special meaning to you! We also have tons of recommendations, so just let us know which type of place you’re thinking and we can find the perfect place together :) Finally, you can also incorporate an activity you love doing together (keep it clean…) Do you like to make pizza at home, ride bikes together, or just snuggle on the couch? Whatever it is, if it’s something you love doing you’ll already feel more comfortable and will add your personality to the session!
Take the day off
If it’s possible, we recommend you make your session an all day activity! Get lunch together, grab a drink, and relax. By the time we hang out, you guys will be full of love and excitement!
Dress like yourself
When it comes to what you're going to wear, the most important thing is that you feel good and look like yourselves. If you have an outfit that you super love, that's probably the one to wear! We want your photos to represent who you are right now, so don't feel like you need to buy new clothes or dress up. With that said, below are a few more tips on what to wear if you're not sure!
Tips on what to wear
1. Feel free to bring 3 or 4 options! We can pick and choose, and make sure the outfits compliment the environment we're shooting in.
2. Think about where we're going to be, the weather, etc. and plan accordingly! It's too hard to hike in heels or to wear close toed shoes on the beach. If it's going to be freezing wear layers! If it's gonna be hot (most likely the case lol) wear something that'll breathe better so you don't get all sweaty! Wear what makes sense and be comfortable!
3. Neutral tones are best because they don't take away from the photos - and neutrals can be in any color! Generally staying away from pinks, bright oranges, or reds is a good idea, but if you really love something feel free to check with us!
Embrace the elements
Don't worry if the wind is messing up your hair or if you get a little dirty. These spontaneous moments can often lead to some of the best photos anyways, so whatever comes our way we’ll have fun with it!
Sorry, this won't be the awkward photo shoot you've come to love
Most people have really awkward emotions tied to having their photos taken. Good news for you, this isn’t one of those kinds of photo shoots! We prefer to treat it like we’re all old friends hanging out and having fun with a camera. We avoid those stiff poses by giving you prompts and interactions to take your focus off the photo side of things.
Leave all the extras behind
Because we want your focus to be entirely on your person and how much you love each other, leave the props, bags, and anything extra at home.
Plan around sunset
unless you’d prefer to shoot around sunrise time, we typically plan to start the session about an hour before sunset. This might change a tiny bit by location, but this allows us to get that beautiful, sunny, warm light!
